What is literary fiction?

For me, it's fiction attuned to the beauty and rhythm of language. The writer cares about the sentence level quality and thinks about the themes. It does not mean complex sentences or convoluted storytelling, although it can. Must have story.

What is Magic Realism?

1. Story set in our world.
2. No magic system. It just is.
3. Magic arises from emotional arcs.
4. Not paranormal.
5. Critique of duality, often colonial in nature.

Angel Di Zhang was born in northeast China, and raised in China, England, Canada and the United States. She was educated in the joint BA-MIA program at Columbia University, and is a painter and an internationally exhibited fine art photographer.
