Question 3
I love craft books, and I'd love to add more to my collection. Can you suggest any great craft books?
You can find this mentor, Chandra Fisher, here!
The answer to this depends on what you’re looking to learn. If structure is your sticking point, my top three are Save the Cat, Structuring Your Novel (K.M. Weiland) and The Nutshell Technique (screenplay-centric but so helpful!)
Emotion got you tangled up? You’ve got to check out The Emotional Craft of Fiction, and the Emotion Thesaurus. While you’re at it, grab the Emotional Wound Thesaurus too (I could spawn whole new books from each entry!)
For interest’s sake, I love Wired for Story (Lisa Cron), Stephen King’s On Writing, and Damn Fine Story by Chuck Wendig. Fascinating and comfortably readable, all three.
Looking to deepen your POV? “Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View” (Jill Elizabeth Nelson) is a 60 page no nonsense pamphlet to tighten your POV down with screws.
Want to make sure romance readers can’t put you down? There’s no better guide than Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes.
And if, like me, you want more and more all the time, add this one to your TBR: Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses. I can’t wait to check this one out; maybe we can read it together <3
